PC POST #286:New Punisher tv series rumors, Netflix answer and Bernthal's interview!

In the last days most of our news feeds are being spammed by the possibility of a new Punisher series produced by Netflix.
While this could be something most of us are waiting for, we can't keep our hopes high and put our faiths in random "reports" by "reliable" sources even if some well known sites like CBR or ComicBook say so.

Let's keep you all up to date regarding these rumors, the interview of Bernthal talking about the Punisher and finally the answer from Netflix about the rumors we've been flooded in the last days.

In the last Saturday 16th, it was reported to TVLine that Netflix was really close the deal a new Marvel spinoff series with Jon Bernthal as the Punisher.

We all know that through the latest interviews the Daredevil's showrunners are pretty amazed by Bernthal acting as the Punisher.

I think we will have to wait for Daredevil's season 2 and i don't have doubt that Netflix will be watching viewers reaction to the Punisher appearance in the show and decide later to make a spinoff series or not.

Yesterday in TCA's presentation, Ted Sarandos (Netflix boss) answered to all the rumors behind the possible new Punisher series from Netflix. He didn't confirm or deny but he answered in an expectable way.

"Any character that’s in there is on the table … It’s always possible. All the characters in the universe could also spin out. Right now, these are produced at the scale of a major film, so there are long production times and long post times. In some case, when we have character crossover, it makes it more difficult to manage production. It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two out a year."

The latest interview of Jon Bernthal's to EW, he talked about some Punisher details in Daredevil season 2...

"As a man who put his on the line and really went through the ultimate sacrifice for this country in his involvement in the military. He’s a guy who brought the war home with him [in] the worst possible way.
There are a lot of iterations of this character and in all of them it’s a man who’s gone through this unbelievable trauma and what’s interesting about our take on him is how this trauma reshapes his own philosophy.

I can’t give too much away, but what’s interesting is the way [showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez] have made his story a slow burn. It’s interesting to find this guy at the point we find him. You want an evolution and a process. He starts in one place and will end up in another. "

Bernthal even mentioned what he did to "get" into the world of Punisher...

"The training and physicality is extremely important in whatever I do. Luckily I know guys in the military branch he was in. I trained with them and trained a lot with weapons. But with Frank, what was important was the emptiness inside him. He’s dealing with this unbelievable loss. There’s unbelievable anger and hatred and shame. There’s a sense of responsibility and as a father and husband, if I were to lose my family on my watch … I had to put myself in as dark of place as possible the last six months."

"Especially at the beginning, what was powerful was a lot of isolation. The first few months I was taking long walks across the Brooklyn Bridge to the set, trying to shed any outside influence of joy. Whether it’s successful or not remains to be seen."

Bernthal was asked what he will feel about the viewers rooting for him to kill really bad people that will appear in season 2...

"One of the things I’m most excited for is I’m hoping the audience will go back and forth. There are things you can identify with and get behind, and there are things when the character pushes it and you can’t get behind him anymore. And that’s what I want. I think that’s the nature of the character. This is a guy who pushes the envelope. He’s brutal, but he’s coming from a place of unbelievable hurt. And the best thing about the character is he just doesn’t care. It’s a highly personal mission he’s on and if he offends you, it’s completely unimportant to him.

"I can tell you that this guy, horrible tragic things happen, and we will see how he goes through that. The effect the other characters have on him will push him certain directions. I think once you see these characters collide, it’s tremendously interesting and emotionally gripping as well. It’s going to be a special season. If you thought last season of Daredevil was dark, we’re going to a whole new place."

Definetely Bernthal is giving us the best Punisher he can give and he deserves all the respect for this, he is rooting and cares for his character.

And despite what Mr. Sarandos say, i think and wish, that we will have our deserved Punisher series and Bernthal will just give us the best Punisher we will ever seen on screen.
